If you place a real ruby in a glass jar, red light will emanate from the jar. If pearls are put together with a real ruby on a silver platter, the silver will appear black, the pearls will take on a red sheen, and the ruby will glow with a brilliant fire. If you place a genuine ruby on an unopened lotus bud, the lotus will bloom almost immediately.
Good rubies are smooth, lustrous, extremely hard, brilliant and transparent. Lesser
rubies are bubbled or dirty, which reduces the effectiveness of the gem; dull, which
causes problems with male relatives, especially brothers; fragile, which portends if there is any black hue in the blue. If so, do not buy this stone; it will have no lightning; cracked, which brings bad luck; or brittle, which causes difficulty in
bearing male children.
